Saturday 9 May 2026, 10am–12pm
The British Library (in collaboration with Crafty Fox Market)
In this beginner-friendly kintsugi workshop, you will be introduced to the traditional Japanese practice of repairing broken ceramics with gold. Rather than hiding cracks, kintsugi highlights them as part of an object’s history.
This short session offers an accessible, contemporary take on the process, giving you a chance to try the technique and create your own repaired piece in a relaxed, hands-on setting. Along the way, you will also learn about the origins and principles of traditional kintsugi.
You will work with a ceramic piece provided for you, with all materials supplied. Vessels are sourced from local studios, giving new life to discarded objects.
By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a finished decorative piece and a practical introduction to the process.
Please note: This is a decorative repair process and pieces will not be food safe.
